Helios Advances CAB Payments Acquisition as East Africa Reviews Deal

Helios Investment Partners is advancing plans to acquire London-listed cross-border payments company CAB Payments, a move that could strengthen digital payment infrastructure and financial connectivity across East Africa.

CAB Payments operates in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, providing cross-border payment and foreign exchange services to financial institutions, businesses and money transfer operators. The proposed acquisition reflects Helios’ growing investment in financial services and technology across the region.

The deal is currently under review by the EAC Competition Authority, which is assessing its potential impact on competition and the regional payments market. If approved, the transaction could support long-term investment and innovation in cross-border payments, helping address challenges such as high transaction costs, fragmented systems and lengthy settlement times.
