Ericsson Highlights 5G Standalone as Foundation for AI-Driven Future

Ericsson is highlighting the critical role of 5G Standalone (5G SA) in enabling the next generation of AI-powered applications and services. As AI adoption grows, Ericsson says telecom networks must evolve to provide the speed, reliability, low latency and capacity required to connect billions of users with AI processing power.

According to Ericsson, 5G SA’s cloud-native architecture and advanced capabilities—including network slicing, network APIs, automation and intelligent traffic management—can support emerging technologies such as physical AI, autonomous systems, smart wearables and distributed AI agents.

With 5G subscriptions reaching 3.1 billion in Q1 2026, Ericsson believes 5G SA will play a strategic role in building AI-ready networks and unlocking new digital services and revenue opportunities for service providers.

Ericsson emphasises that investing in scalable, secure and cloud-native 5G SA infrastructure today will help lay the foundation for the future of AI and the transition toward 6G and more autonomous digital ecosystems.
