The National Communications Authority (NCA) has cleared MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana and Goal Telecommunications to proceed to the next stage of Ghana’s 5G spectrum licensing process.
The decision follows the completion of the qualification stage of the Request for Applications for spectrum licences in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz bands.
The NCA said four applications were received by the August 27, 2026 deadline. Following an assessment of eligibility and technical qualifications, Scancom Plc (MTN Ghana), Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited (Telecel Ghana), and Goal Telecommunications Ltd were qualified, while Infrav Ltd did not qualify.
Only the three qualified applicants will proceed to Stage 3 of the selection process. The NCA said the Envelope B submission of the non-qualified applicant would not be opened.
The qualified applicants will be notified of the date, time and venue for the opening and ranking of their Best Price Offers.
The 5G spectrum licensing process began on July 16, 2026, with the NCA inviting applications for spectrum in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz bands to support mobile broadband services, including 5G.
The process forms part of Ghana’s efforts to expand mobile broadband connectivity and accelerate digital transformation.
