Cybersecurity is foundation of Ghana’s digital transformation – Deputy Minister

Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has underscored the importance of cybersecurity as the foundation of Ghana’s digital transformation, saying the country cannot build a successful digital economy without secure and trusted digital systems. Speaking at the launch of the National Community Media Cyber Capability Building Project in Accra, he said public trust is essential for citizens, businesses and investors to confidently embrace digital services.

Mr. Sukparu explained that the government’s digital transformation agenda extends beyond expanding digital infrastructure to include digital skills development, innovation, artificial intelligence, regulatory reforms and cybersecurity. He highlighted initiatives such as the One Million Coders Programme and Ghana’s national Artificial Intelligence strategy, which aim to equip young people with future-ready digital skills while promoting the responsible and secure use of emerging technologies.

He also called on journalists to play a greater role in promoting cybersecurity awareness by educating the public on cyber risks, combating misinformation and encouraging responsible digital behaviour. According to him, collaboration among government, the Cyber Security Authority, law enforcement agencies, academia, the private sector and development partners is essential to tackling emerging cyber threats and creating a safe, resilient digital environment for all Ghanaians.
