Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George has highlighted the growing need to protect Ghana’s telecommunications infrastructure as the country expands and modernises its networks.
He noted that fibre cuts increased from 3,900 in 2021 to 8,578 in 2026, with the government’s Big Push road projects and galamsey activities identified as major contributors.
Despite the challenges, Mr. George reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving telecom service quality, while urging greater protection of fibre infrastructure. He also noted that over $20 million spent on fibre repairs this year highlights the importance of preventing damage and redirecting resources toward network expansion and improved connectivity.
