Huawei South Africa has launched the sixth edition of its Women in Tech Digital Skills Development Programme, bringing together 50 women entrepreneurs and public-sector leaders for a three-day training focused on technology, leadership and business growth.
Under the theme “HERabytes: Small Business. Big Intelligence,” the programme aims to equip women-led businesses with practical AI and digital skills to improve marketing, customer understanding, data analysis, demand forecasting and business automation.
Representatives from Huawei, South Africa’s Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT), the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD), and Henley Business School Africa emphasised the importance of ensuring women play an active role in the country’s AI-driven digital economy.
Huawei South Africa Deputy CEO Charles Cheng said technology creates value when it enables people to build businesses and access new economic opportunities, while DCDT Director-General Nonkqubela Jordan-Dyani stressed that women must be part of shaping the AI economy rather than being left behind.
The programme also covers 5G-Advanced, cloud computing and leadership development, with the latter delivered through Henley Business School Africa.
The initiative forms part of Huawei’s broader digital inclusion and skills-development efforts in South Africa. Huawei said more than 350 graduates have participated in its Graduate Programme since 2017, alongside other initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s digital talent pipeline.
The 2026 programme ultimately seeks to help women entrepreneurs use emerging technologies to grow their businesses, create opportunities and take a leading role in South Africa’s digital future.
