MTN Ghana has intensified cybersecurity awareness among its workforce as cybercriminals and fraudsters adopt increasingly sophisticated tactics. The company is equipping employees with information-security practices to protect corporate and customer information and strengthen their role as a first line of defence against fraud.
Madam Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager for Enterprise Information and Security Governance at MTN Ghana, said the training in Takoradi formed part of regional cybersecurity awareness sessions aimed at helping staff recognise emerging threats and handle information responsibly. She stressed that employees who interact directly with customers must be equipped to identify suspicious activities and share appropriate cybersecurity guidance.
She also urged customers to protect their Mobile Money (MoMo) PINs, one-time passwords (OTPs) and other confidential information, warning that fraudsters often manipulate victims into voluntarily disclosing sensitive details. She advised customers to be cautious of unsolicited calls and messages, noting that MTN would not request PINs or payments through such channels and encouraging customers to use official MTN channels or visit a branch for clarification.
MTN is also extending cybersecurity education beyond social media through face-to-face engagements and local-language communication to reach communities, including people who may not regularly use digital platforms. The company said continued collaboration between employees and customers is essential to reducing fraud risks and maintaining a secure digital environment.
