MTN Ghana has officially separated its Mobile Money business from its telecommunications operations, creating Mobile Money Fintech Ltd. (MMFL) as an independent company effective March 31, 2026.
The restructuring complies with the Bank of Ghana’s Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987) and is designed to strengthen regulation, attract investment, and accelerate innovation in digital financial services.
MTN assured customers that the transition will not affect existing MoMo services, with wallets, PINs, transaction history, and agent networks remaining unchanged.
According to Nana Addai, Head of MMFL for the Northern Business District, the new structure will enable the company to expand its agent network, introduce new financial products, improve operational efficiency, and better serve individuals, SMEs, and corporate clients.
The company also reiterated its commitment to combating Mobile Money fraud through enhanced security, public awareness campaigns, and collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the Cyber Security Authority.
The move positions MMFL for long-term growth while supporting Ghana’s digital transformation and expanding access to secure and innovative financial services.
