The Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, has urged journalists and media practitioners to uphold accuracy, fairness, accountability and rigorous verification as digitalisation transforms the media landscape.
Speaking at the Ghana Journalists Association’s 77th Anniversary Symposium in Accra, he stressed that while technology and news consumption continue to evolve, journalism’s responsibility to serve the public remains unchanged. He urged media professionals to embrace innovation while protecting public trust.
Rev. Ing. Fianko also highlighted the NCA’s efforts to improve Ghana’s digital connectivity, including the construction of more than 500 new network sites in 2026 and upgrades to existing infrastructure. He said stronger connectivity was essential to ensuring journalists, particularly those in rural communities, can participate fully in the digital media ecosystem.
He reaffirmed the NCA’s commitment to working with operators to improve service quality while respecting media freedom and the separate mandates of institutions responsible for communications and journalism.
