Ericsson has extended its partnership with Safaricom Kenya through a multi-year microwave deal aimed at strengthening reliable 5G capacity across the country.
Under the agreement, Ericsson will provide advanced E-band and multi-band microwave solutions from its MINI-LINK portfolio to support Safaricom’s growing 5G network. Ericsson will also introduce AI-powered analytics and automation to improve network management and decision-making.
The partnership is expected to strengthen connectivity in underserved areas. Safaricom has already achieved speeds of up to 1 Gbps in remote parts of northern Kenya using Ericsson’s transport technology for long-distance communications exceeding 100 kilometres.
Ericsson said the upgraded transport network will serve as a critical backbone for Safaricom’s expanding 5G infrastructure, supporting higher data demand and improved connectivity for consumers and businesses.
The two companies have maintained a long-standing partnership, including a 2021 agreement to deploy Ericsson’s MINI-LINK technology to increase multi-Gbps mobile broadband backhaul capacity across Kenya.
