US regional carrier Nex-Tech Wireless has partnered with Ericsson on a four-year network modernization project covering about 85% of its radio access network (RAN) footprint across rural Kansas.
The upgrade includes the deployment of a cloud-native 5G Standalone (5G SA) Core, alongside Ericsson Radio System solutions, including AI-capable RAN technology and new 4G and 5G software features.
The modernization is expected to improve network coverage, capacity and spectral efficiency, while enabling Nex-Tech to offer advanced 5G services to rural communities.
The new 5G SA Core will also support network slicing, roaming and network hosting capabilities, allowing Nex-Tech to support other mobile operators and create new revenue opportunities.
Nex-Tech Wireless, founded in 2005, has an estimated 70,000 customers.
