Ericsson South Africa has launched the first cohort of a planned five-year learnership programme aimed at equipping young people with technical skills for careers in the telecommunications sector.
The first cohort of 15 learners began the 12-month programme in the Eastern Cape on July 22, 2026. The programme will lead to a Further Education and Training Certificate in Telecommunication Network Operations, accredited by MICT SETA and QCTO.
Delivered by Human Capital Learning Solutions, the programme combines classroom instruction, practical training and workplace experience. Learners will receive training in telecommunications infrastructure, rigging, installation, tower climbing, safety and field operations, preparing them for roles as telecommunications technicians and riggers.
Participants will also develop professional skills including communication, teamwork, ethics and accountability, while gaining supervised experience on Ericsson projects.
Ericsson South Africa said the initiative is part of its long-term commitment to developing local talent, supporting employment opportunities and building the skilled workforce needed to strengthen the country’s telecommunications infrastructure and digital transformation.
