Minister calls for tailored financing for Ghana’s tech sector

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has called on financial institutions to develop funding models specifically designed for Ghana’s technology sector.

Speaking at an ICT Roundtable organised by Development Bank Ghana (DBG) in Accra, Mr George said technology businesses such as data centres, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, software, fintech and BPO require financing that reflects their different stages of growth and business models, rather than traditional funding designed for conventional businesses.

DBG CEO Prof. Randolph Nsor-Ambala said the bank was positioning itself as a catalyst for innovation and working with fintechs to develop new financial products. He said DBG would also work with policymakers to improve access to business data and identify practical financing mechanisms that can help financial institutions better assess and fund technology companies.
