MTN Targets Home Broadband Growth in Ghana and Nigeria

MTN Group is expanding its home broadband strategy in Ghana and Nigeria, with fibre and fixed wireless access (FWA) identified as key growth opportunities.

In Nigeria, MTN increased capital expenditure intensity to more than 20% in the first half of 2026 to expand its mobile network and connect more homes through fibre and FWA.

Ghana is also emerging as a major home connectivity market. MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita said the company expects home broadband to become a significant growth driver over the next three years, supported by fibre expansion and increased access to 5G spectrum for fixed wireless services.

The focus comes amid rising demand for data. MTN’s group data revenue grew 29.2% in the first half of 2026 and now accounts for nearly half of total service revenue. Ghana recorded 32% service revenue growth during the period, with an EBITDA margin of 61.8%.

MTN said it will continue investing in fibre, FWA and mobile networks while also monitoring satellite connectivity, artificial intelligence and rising smartphone chipset costs that could affect handset affordability.
