MTN Launches Pan-African Media Innovation Programme

MTN has launched the first cohort of its Pan-African Media Innovation Programme to strengthen media innovation, skills development and African storytelling across its markets.

Delivered in partnership with the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and The African Editors Forum (TAEF), the programme will equip journalists, editors and media practitioners to navigate a rapidly evolving industry shaped by artificial intelligence, digital platforms, changing audience behaviour and emerging business models.

MTN says the initiative aims to position African journalists and content creators as “new cultural diplomats” who can strengthen connections among African societies and tell the continent’s stories from an African perspective.

MTN Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer Nompilo Morafo emphasised the importance of strong and independent media institutions to Africa’s development, while Group Chairman Mcebisi Jonas highlighted the role of media and businesses in promoting African integration and deeper people-to-people connections.

The programme forms part of MTN’s broader commitment to skills development, innovation and strengthening Africa’s media ecosystem.
