Ghana’s telecommunications sector contributed GH¢15.07 billion in taxes and statutory fees to the state in 2025, representing 6.8% of total domestic revenue.
Tax analyst Francis Timore Boi disclosed the figure at a forum organised by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and Deloitte.
Corporate Income Tax accounted for GH¢4.18 billion, followed by VAT at GH¢2.39 billion. The sector also paid GH¢1.67 billion through NHIL, GETFund and COVID-19 levies, while Communication Service Tax generated GH¢1.07 billion.
Telecom and mobile money operators also collected GH¢838.13 million in E-Levy during the first four months of 2025 before its abolition in April. Speakers said mobile money activity increased following the removal of the levy.
Meanwhile, Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications CEO Sylvia Owusu Ankomah called for incentives to support network expansion in underserved and rural communities, citing the high cost of infrastructure deployment and maintenance.
Tax officials also called for closer engagement with the industry to ensure tax policies keep pace with the evolving digital economy.
