Double fibre cuts disrupt Telecel services, affect 72,754 subscribers

A double fibre cut on the Accra-Winneba and Winneba-Cape Coast routes has disrupted Telecel Ghana services across large parts of the Central Region, affecting an estimated 72,754 subscribers.

The disruption, as shared by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, in a post on X on Saturday, October 3, 20256, has also affected about 181 Radio Access Network (RAN) sites, according to information released by the National Communications Authority (NCA).

The affected areas, accrording to the minister, include parts of the Winneba and Agona Swedru sectors, the coastal and transit corridors, as well as communities around the Kasoa-Weija border.

Among the affected locations are Winneba, Agona Swedru, Nyakrom, Kwanyako, Apam, Mumford, Otuam, Gomoa Fetteh, Senya Beraku, Mankessim, Assin Fosu, Twifo Praso and Ateiku.

Communities including Awutu Bereku, Bawjiase, Potsin, Jei Krodua, Tuba, Weija, West Hills Mall, Dark Bortianor and Aplaku Bortianor have also experienced the impact of the outage.

The fibre cuts were reportedly caused by road construction works being undertaken along the affected stretch.

“The fibre cuts are a result of work by the road contractor on that stretch of road,” Sam George said.

Telecel engineers, the minister added, have been deployed to the affected locations to work on restoring services, while another team is engaging the road contractor to halt further excavation that could cause additional damage to the network.

The NCA said it would continue to monitor the situation as efforts to restore connectivity continue.

Telecel has apologised to affected customers for the disruption and said its engineers are working to restore services as quickly as practically possible.
