Ericsson has signed separate Memoranda of Understanding with Japan’s Murata Manufacturing and Sumitomo Electric Industries to explore technologies for next-generation mobile network infrastructure, including 6G and AI-enabled communications.
The collaborations will focus on joint technology evaluations, knowledge exchange and proof-of-concept projects aimed at improving network performance, reducing energy consumption and strengthening resilient communications systems. The companies will combine Ericsson’s global network expertise with Japanese component technology for applications in Japan and global markets.
Ericsson said the partnerships build on its long-term commitment to Japan and its new R&D Center in Yokohama, which began operations in April 2026. The centre develops advanced radio hardware and software for mobile networks and supports collaboration on future network technologies and international standards.
