MTN Ghana Dominates GSE Trading as Index Slips

MTN Ghana accounted for 96% of the GH¢51 million traded on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) on September 29, 2026, as the market’s main indices declined. The GSE Composite Index fell 0.29% to 14,117.62, while the GSE Financial Stocks Index dropped to 7,502.73. Despite the decline, both indices remain up more than 61% since the start of the year.

Trading activity increased sharply, with 8.46 million shares worth GH¢50.97 million changing hands, compared with GH¢5.13 million the previous day. MTN Ghana accounted for GH¢48.71 million of the turnover, with 7.48 million shares traded as its share price fell three pesewas to GH¢6.51. Ecobank Transnational also declined, falling four pesewas to GH¢1.62. The two stocks contributed to a GH¢1.37 billion fall in total market capitalisation, which closed at GH¢267.86 billion.

Among gainers, Cocoa Processing Company rose 7.7% to GH¢0.28, while Enterprise Group gained 5% to GH¢7.35. CAL Bank and SIC Insurance also advanced. Dannex Ayrton Starwin and Clydestone declined, while GCB Bank recorded the second-highest trade value. On the Ghana Alternative Market, Hords PLC gained 9.1%, while Digicut Production & Advertising also advanced.
