Ghana’s National Information Technology Agency (NITA) expects to award a contract by October for a National Data Exchange designed to enable real-time data sharing between government and private institutions.
The platform will not store institutional data but will facilitate secure requests and exchanges between organisations at lower cost. NITA is also working with the Smart Africa Alliance to pilot the Smart Africa Trust Alliance (SATA) with Ghana, Benin and Rwanda, supporting cross-border digital identity verification and trade.
Legal interoperability remains a key challenge, as data protection and cybersecurity laws differ across the pilot countries. Legal teams are working to align the relevant regulations.
NITA has also deployed a national public key infrastructure supporting digital certificates used on the Ghana Card, passports and immigration documents. The agency plans to seek vendors for digital trust services, including digital signatures and seals.
Contractors will have six months to deploy the systems, with NITA targeting full operationalisation of the national data centre and PKI system by June 2027.
