Helios Towers, UNICEF Partner to Expand Digital Learning Across Africa.

Helios Towers and UNICEF have announced a multi-year partnership to expand internet connectivity and digital learning for children and young people across Africa through UNICEF’s Giga and Learning Passport initiatives. The partnership will combine Helios Towers’ telecommunications infrastructure expertise with UNICEF’s digital inclusion efforts to support school connectivity and access to quality education in underserved communities.

The initiative will initially focus on the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi and Tanzania, with additional support planned for another West African country. Helios Towers will support school connectivity mapping and infrastructure development through Giga, while also helping expand access to Learning Passport, which provides flexible digital learning opportunities both online and offline.

The partners said reliable connectivity can help children access education, develop digital skills and participate in future economies. Helios Towers CEO Tom Greenwood said connectivity is an important enabler of education and social inclusion, while UNICEF UK CEO Philip Goodwin said partnerships with the private sector can help remove barriers to education and expand learning opportunities in underserved communities.
