A new Ericsson ConsumerLab study has found strong consumer demand for guaranteed 5G performance in the Philippines, with 60% of 5G users identifying situations where reliable connectivity is critical, compared with a global average of 40%. The study surveyed 43,000 smartphone users across 27 markets, including 1,500 consumers in the Philippines.
The report found that 36% of Filipino 5G users are willing to pay a premium for guaranteed quality of service, potentially creating additional revenue opportunities for telecom operators. Ericsson said demand for performance-assured connectivity is expected to grow as mobile AI use increases, with daily multimodal AI engagement projected to double from 16% to 32% by 2030.
The study also highlighted opportunities for telecom operators to introduce differentiated connectivity through network APIs such as Quality on Demand, allowing applications to access performance based on specific requirements. Ericsson said this could support new service tiers and business models as consumers increasingly use AI, video and other demanding applications on mobile networks.
