Telecel Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusion and accessibility for deaf persons during the 2026 International Week for the Deaf celebrations. The event focused on improving access to quality multilingual and inclusive education for deaf learners, particularly in tertiary institutions.
Telecel Ghana’s General Manager for Commercial Operations, Mercy Akude, said the company’s partnership with the Ghana National Association of the Deaf (GNAD), which began in 2017, has supported greater access and participation for the Deaf community. She noted that Telecel has employed 10 deaf professionals and provides more than 3,500 members of the community with discounted voice and data services and dedicated support channels.
Participants, including educators, policymakers and disability advocates, called for stronger implementation of inclusive education policies through increased access to sign language interpreters, assistive technologies, disability support centres and accessible learning resources. Telecel, which sponsored the event, also showcased digital solutions aimed at reducing communication barriers and reaffirmed its commitment to working with GNAD and other partners to expand inclusive programmes.
